Snoc, the first provider of Web Application Firewall and DDoS protection services in Thailand, announced that Thailand ranked No.4 among the top originators of DDoS attacks in Asia-Pacific (APAC) in 2018. The company has therefore partnered with Nexusguard, the world’s leading provider of cloud-based DDoS protection services, to offer Web Application Firewall (WAF) that can fight against over 3 Tbps DDoS attacks. Supported by 16 global scrubbing centers worldwide, this service offering is mainly targeted at online enterprises, data centers, mobile application solution providers, Internet service providers, data center service providers, e-commerce and online game businesses. Snoc expects to achieve 100% business growth in 2019.

A recent report about distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) threats released by Secure Network Operation Center (Snoc) and Nexusguard indicated that in the third quarter of 2018, Thailand ranked No.4 among the top sources of DDoS attacks in APAC, originating 4.57% of DDoS attacks. China is the top originator, responsible for 59.59% of DDoS attack, followed by Vietnam (13.32%) and India (5.72%) as No.2 and No.3 respectively. DDoS attacks per IP prefix reached 5.32 gigabits per second (Gbps) last year and caused 1,439.67 minutes or nearly 24 hours of system downtime.

Mr. Visrut Manunpon, Chief Technical Officer, Secure Network Operation Center Co., Ltd. (Snoc) talked about the impacts of DDoS in Thailand, revealing that DDoS attacks reported in 2018 consumed bandwidth of up to 14 Gbps and caused system downtime of 4 hours. Mostly, DDoS attacks went through communication service providers, Internet service providers or cloud service providers to indirectly affect businesses that do transactions or deliver online applications on their multi-tenant platforms. As a result, these companies’ websites become unavailable and they cannot either respond to any requests or serve their customers, and therefore they lose business opportunities and their brand reputation is destroyed. Finally, they even lose customers to their competitors.

“We found that 70% of companies in Thailand use an average bandwidth of 100 megabits or 1 gigabit, and only 10% can afford a huge investment for 10 gigabit bandwidth deployment. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), it is possible to perform DDoS attacks with larger bandwidth by using various kinds of devices at any locations.”

Therefore, Snoc has teamed up with Nexusguard to offer Web Application Firewall and DDoS protection in the form of Security as a Service for the first time in Thailand in order to help customers ease their budget burdens and save capital expenses by over six times. Customers will benefit from end-to-end, 24x7 services, including Web Application Firewall (WAF) that protect applications from attacks, Original Protection that prevents volumetric DDoS attacks, along with load balancing that helps avoid server downtime, and DNS protection that helps ensure website security and availability.

Moreover, these security services are supported by a global scrubbing center in Thailand with 700 Gbps bandwidth, coupled with 15 Nexusguard’s centers worldwide, enabling customers to have around 3 Tbps bandwidth in total to fight against DDoS attacks. Snoc team can support Thai-language and foreign-language websites, provide real-time consulting, establish a virtual war room for solving crisis. In addition, Snoc and Nexusguard will organize seminars to educate customers and general public about DDoS, and deliver training and workshops for IT security professionals to help enhance their skills in defending their online business against DDoS threats.

“We have previously collaborated with communication, Internet and cloud service providers or ISPs such as CAT and INET to help them protect their infrastructure from DDoS attacks. This year, we will upgrade our collaboration with ISPs by appointing them as resellers for our security services. We will deploy our systems at ISPs’ service centers to provide more choices to customers, allowing them select service options more conveniently and cost-effectively. Customers may opt to use security services directly from Nexusguard or Snoc clouds or through ISP clouds in Thailand with support from Nexusguard centers worldwide. This enables local ISPs to deliver reliable services and efficiently handle high-bandwidth DDoS attacks,” Mr. Visrut added.

Mr. Visrut concluded that Snoc currently provide those security services to five of the 10 largest financial institutions, two-third leading online game companies, and over 150 websites in Thailand. Snoc plans to expand its customer base in major sectors including financial service companies, data centers, e-commerce, online game providers, mobile application providers, and ASPs, expecting its revenue to increase by 40 million Baht or with over 100% growth from last year.
