Radius Telecoms, Inc. (Radius), a subsidiary of Meralco, has launched a new distributed denial of service (DDoS) scrubbing center at its international point-of-presence in Hong Kong. The move enhances security for Radius' business-to-business (B2B) direct internet access service, offering better protection against the increasing threat of DDoS attacks, which flood websites with fake traffic, disrupting access for legitimate users.
In partnership with Nexusguard, a leading DDoS cybersecurity provider, and Total Information Management (TIM), Radius aims to strengthen its ability to manage malicious traffic and safeguard its network.
Nexusguard’s 2024 Autumn Report highlights a surge in DDoS attack size and duration, with the average attack increasing by 135 percent and durations growing by 163 percent year-on-year. Without collective efforts from end-users, providers, and governments, experts predict these trends will worsen.
Radius OIC-chief operating officer Al Solis stated, "This new investment allows us to block DDoS attacks in real time that also impacts our target latency in our traffic routing. The availability of [a] scrubbing center within our network guarantees that we maintain high reliability of our internet service and protect our low-latency commitment to our enterprise customers."
He added that while Radius strengthens its internal cybersecurity, it expects its enterprise clients to implement their own robust security protocols, as cyberattacks are likely to grow more sophisticated in the future.
Nexusguard chief technology officer Juniman Kasman emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling DDoS threats, “By combining our expertise with Radius' robust infrastructure, we aim to provide enterprises with reliable protection to ensure uninterrupted operations.”
Radius, known for its 100 percent fiber network, offers connectivity and security solutions to top corporations in the Philippines, covering key business districts in Mega Manila, Central Luzon, Clark, and Cebu. The company continues to expand its network, supporting the digital transformation and increasing bandwidth needs of local enterprises. Radius also provides cloud services, SD-WAN solutions, and Security as a Service (SECaaS) to further enhance cybersecurity for businesses.
